This headband pattern is simple, it’s relaxing, and it’s packed with just enough texture to keep things interesting. The Filet and Bead Stitch Headband quickly became one of those projects I couldn’t put down once I started.

I love how the bead stitch adds these soft, bumpy textures — almost like tiny pearls stitched into the fabric — and then the filet stitch opens everything up with light, airy spaces. It’s the perfect mix: cozy but breathable, detailed but still easygoing. It feels like just the right amount of not too fussy, not too plain.

This headband has quickly become one of my go-to accessories. On busy mornings when I’m running out the door, or on slow afternoons spent outside in the sun, it’s the perfect thing to throw on and feel a little more pulled together. It works just as well for a messy bun as it does for loose hair days, and it has that effortless, slightly boho vibe.

For this version, I went with a soft, natural color to keep it versatile and light — something I could wear with just about anything. But the best part is how easy it would be to make it your own. Imagine it in a soft dusty rose, a deep earthy rust, a pop of sunflower yellow, or even a mix of colors! The bead and filet stitches really show off whatever yarn you choose.

I used Aunt Lydia's Crochet Thread but any color or brand will work. I would recommend using only cotton yarn for a headband because it does not stretch as much as some other materials and it is breathable and comfortable to wear.

**Special Stitch: (bead st) Yo, insert hook around the previous dc, yo, pull loop through 3 times around the same dc. (there will be 7 loops on your hook), yo, pull loop through 6 loops, yo, pull through last 2 loops on hook. The bead stitch(bead st) is a half double crochet puff stitch worked around the post of the previous double crochet.

Notes: This pattern is worked in multiples of 4+3. It can easily be adjusted to different size headbands or for a different yarn sizes.

Dimensions: Length 17in x Width 1.5in.

Directions:
Begin with a slip knot on your crochet hook, ch 104.

Tie a knot in the middles of a soft nylon headband. use a tapestry needle to loop the

end of the headband tightly around one side of the nylon hair tie, fasten off a weave in ends,

repeat on the other side.

There’s something satisfying about making something with your hands—especially when it's cozy and pretty. This crochet pillow is one of my recent favorite projects, and I wanted to share a little about how it came together.

This pillow is made with soft, breathable cotton yarn in a mix of warm, earthy tones—creams, browns, pinks, and a touch of peach. It’s got a ton of texture, which I love, and it adds a handmade charm to whatever room it’s in. I used a bunch of different stitches to keep things interesting. At the top and bottom, I used the five-point spike stitch, which gives this beautiful layered effect. The stitches reach down over multiple rows, pulling up different colors and creating a look that almost reminds me of little floral bursts. It adds just the right amount of visual interest without being too busy. The second and fourth rows are bobbles that pop up off the surface (they’re so fun to make), and a star-like stitch in the middle section that adds a nice contrast.

One of the coolest parts is how each side of the pillow is made from two separate pieces that are joined together so the design is perfectly symmetrical. It makes everything feel balanced and intentional. To pull everything together, I added a border around the edge using several of the same colors from the body of the pillow. It kind of frames the whole piece and gives it a polished look.

This pillow is more than just a decorative piece—it’s something I enjoyed making, and now it’s part of my space. It’s one of those projects that reminds me why I love to crochet: it’s relaxing and creative, and in the end, you have something special to show for your time.

Free Crochet Octopus Hat Pattern

Bring a splash of creativity to your crochet with this fun and whimsical Octopus Hat! Designed with a comfortable beanie base and eight playful, curling tentacles, this project is perfect for costume parties, themed events, or simply adding a bit of personality to your cold-weather gear.

At first glance, the pattern might seem it involves a lot of counting—but thanks to strategic stitch marker placement, the tentacle shaping is easy to manage and surprisingly relaxing once you get going. Best of all, the tentacles are worked directly onto the hat—no sewing required—which makes for a seamless, sturdy finish and saves time in the final assembly. The only part that needs to be sewn on is the eyes.

Using basic stitches and simple shaping, this pattern is suitable for confident beginners and experienced crocheters alike. If you're comfortable with single crochet, increases, slip stitches, and chains, you're ready to jump in!

The bottom edge of the hat = 20 inches. The top of the hat to the end of the tentacle = 19 inches.

Do not fasten off. Continue to Tentacles.

Notes about the Tentacles:

Each tentacle takes up 7 stitches on the hat. Leave 3 stitches between tentacle bases. Total repeat area per tentacle = 10 stitches.

SLST into the bottom edge of the hat does not count as a stitch. Be sure to skip the SLST at the beginning of each row.

Move the stitch markers up a row as you work down the tentacle. When you're done with a tentacle, remove the stitch markers so the can be used in the next tentacle.

R1: Skip 1 CH, in 2nd CH from the hook:

Section 1: (1 SC, 1 INC)*7 (21 ) - place a stitch marker in the last stitch of this section.

Section 2: (2 SC, 1 INC)*7 (28 ) - place a stitch marker in the last stitch of this section.

Section 3: (3 SC, 1 INC)*4 (20 ) - place a stitch marker in the last stitch of this section.

Section 4: 18 SC (87 stitches total in R1)

1 SLST into the next ST on hat, turn.

R2: CH 1, 65 SC down the tentacle, 1 SLST into the next ST (this should be the last stitch before the lowest placed stitch marker on the tentacle), turn (66)

Repeat CH 70 - R9 for a total of 8 tentacles.

Final Step of Tentacle: After completing the 8th tentacle, work 19 SC across the front of the hat to finish off the edge, fasten off yarn, and with your tapestry needle finish with an invisible join and weave in ends.

Leave a long tail to sew on to the hat and fasten off. Repeat for 2nd eye.

Place safety eyes or sew eyes on with black thread in the center of the magic ring. Stuff each eye with a little fiber fill and sew eyes on to the hat centered with the tentacle to the left and right of the center of the front, and between rows 38-45.
